Troy's School Info

Since we moved to Scotland so that I could finish my PhD, I thought I'd let you know how it's going after the first 6 weeks. I'm really enjoying being back in full-time research! My advisor is great, he's very laid back and understanding of having a family (he has 2 daughters that are just a few years older than our boys). This gives me the freedom to work from home from time to time which is good.

I'm currently working on a lot of math. Actually it's using a unified complex exponential formulation of the Lagrange-Gibbs solution to the two-body problem. That's a bunch of words meanining math, math, and more math. If you need something to put you to bed at night, I'll send you some of my papers. I am really enjoying it and hopefully it will get me a few more publications (and that's what graduate school is all about, publications). When I wrap this up, I'll most likely start on spacecraft mission design optimization, meaning more math.

In 2 weeks we'll start our first group project. By group I mean our entire research group. The European Space Agency started the Global Trajectory Optimization Competition 2 years ago and our group has entered both years. You can google it if you're really interested in more info. Basically, the previous winners come up with a problem and give you a month to turn in your solution. I'll let you know how it goes.

On another note, I've been told that people have tried to post comments unsuccessfully. I don't know why that is, I've turned on everything that should allow you to do so. Please keep trying. Also, just for grins, if/when you read this, send me or Melissa an email so I know that people are reading it!
