The last 2 weeks have had some rather odd happenings and/or sightings. Here's the family favorites...
About 10 days ago, my Scottish friend DC said, "You haven't lived until you've had your ear brushed by a bus [while walking on the sidewalk]". Not two hours later, I had to move over a few steps because a bus coming at me had both left tires on the sidewalk! I did not, however, get my ear brushed.
A few days later, while walking the boys home from nursery, we saw another funny sight. A late-50s aged woman was coming down the hill and passed us. She was dressed very professionally in a pants-suit with tall heels. The funny thing is that she was on a Razor scooter (see http://www.razor.com/products/a-scooter.php if you don't know what that is). Then she stopped at the local corner pub, collapsed the scooter, and walked right in. Just imagine it and you'll have to smile.
Recently, I read an article online about how London is planning on installing pads (cushions) on the street light poles because people have run into them while busy texting and walking. Now you must understand that texting on your cell phone here is everything. The way Americans talk on their cell phone while driving or doing something is similar to the way that the British seem to text. I can set my Tivo or order pizza with a text (if I had a mobile). Anyway, after a particularly long day which left me in a rather grumpy mood, I was walking up to get the boys from nursery and saw a college-aged girl walk smack into a light post while texting. She was so busy messing with her phone she cracked her head on a lamp post! Since I was the only one around, she wasn't terribly embarrassed and she was okay (yes, I asked). Perhaps Glasgow will have to install pads on the lamp posts.
That's all for now. If I think of any other good ones, I'll add them later.
